At the 20th January race meeting, the Rockhampton Speedway community paid tribute to Luke O’Brien, Modified Sedans driver. A minute’s silence was held after the Grand Parade. Luke’s father and son were present at the event.
At this event, 11 pairs of Street Stocks Drivers competed in the Streeties of Thunder 20/20, which was proudly sponsored by OzCar Rockhampton. The duos included brothers, father/son, and racing friends.
Before the night, each of the A drivers gave their driving companion a piece of advice. Braith Hogan gave his dad a valuable piece of advice – “Don’t do what Mason Cameron did”. This meant don’t hit the fence. But in Mark’s first heat, he put the car in the fence, which meant Braith missed his first heat while repairs were made. Nevertheless, the duo came back to place third in the feature.
Toby Maloney’s brother Graham proved that racing ability runs in their blood, by taking out second in the feature.
Before the night, James Russell gave his racing partner Mark McGilvray a very valuable piece of advice. “Don’t do what you did last 20/20”. This included rolling the car, the car catching on fire whilst the pair were hanging upside down.
Luckily for them both, this advice was adhered to. The boys had a flawless night and were rewarded by winning the feature.
