Rockhampton is known as the beef capital of Australia! Location
Rockhampton is Centrally located within the state of Queensland and sits astride Queensland's largest and most picturesque river, the Fitzroy. The magnificent Berserker Ranges and Mt Archer provide an imposing backdrop to this city that has a population of 100,000 in the greater Rockhampton area. It is these values that make our city attractive to many sporting & business events including the triennial Beef Australia conference that attract delegates from local to international. Rockhampton is a leisurely 40 kilometres drive inland from the Capricorn Coast and the Pacific Ocean.
Getting There
The Rockhampton region is well serviced by the National and State highway system, with the city being located at the main junction of the coastal highway (Bruce Highway), and the central western highway (Capricorn Highway). Good rail infrastructure also exists, with an electrified rail link between Brisbane and Rockhampton. An express tilt-train service travels from Brisbane to Rockhampton six days per week.
Rockhampton is the major airport in Central Queensland. Virgin, Jetstar and QANTAS fly into Rockhampton from most major cities.
Pits
The pits at Rockhampton City Raceway were a major part of the six million dollar face-lift; the entire facility was converted to underground power with transformer upgrades. The total area of the pits covers some three acres. The entire pit area is fully lit hosting abundant power & water facilities. One acre of the pit area is fully covered & extensively lit. This singular improvement cost one million dollars alone. Bitumen roads connect the pits to the racing circuit. Pit facilities would host 200+ Nominations.
The Track
Queensland's premier Speedway, The Rockhampton City Raceway is 440 metres in length comprising of clay and granite mixed surface. Extensive Lighting on 8 x 100 metre towers turn night into day around the racing circuit. The track itself is level with natural ground contained by a 1.2 metre high concrete wall and a newly erected 3.3 metre high catch fence. Public Liability Insurance is provided by NASR. Although the loop has been installed in the track for some time, Rockhampton Saloon Car Club Inc has recently purchased the complete AMB lap scoring/timing system and a number of transponder units.
Capacity
The Rockhampton Showground's has the capacity and associated facilities to cater for 8 000 spectators comfortably. The major grandstand facility is the largest grandstand of its type located at any speedway venue in Queensland. Numerous smaller grandstands encompass the racing circuit providing adequate seating for all racing enthusiasts.

Rockhampton and the Capricorn Region offer a diverse choice of accommodation styles. From international resort accommodation, hotel and motel units, serviced apartments, cabins, holiday villas to well presented parks catering for the caravan and camping enthusiasts. Rockhampton's Motel 98, which is positioned on the heritage listed Quay Street overlooking the Beautiful Fitzroy River has recently been named the Best Four Star Accommodation in Queensland by the Hotel and Motel Association of Australia for the third time running.
Accommodation facilities available ensure Rockhampton is well positioned to comfortably cater for multiple major sporting and or business events of significant magnitude. Beef Australia and Horse Australia can testify to these claims and continue to use Rockhampton to host such major events.

Camping
Camping facilities including showers, toilets and power are available at the Rockhampton City Raceway Complex. One complete shower and toilet block has been erected as part of the capital upgrade and the remainder were refurbished. Fees for camping are $18.00 per camp per night.
Canteens
Hot food canteens operate at four (2) outlets around the track. There is also a licensed bar elevated above fence height. The raised position and the complete glass front allow immediate uninterrupted viewing of the racing circuit and provides total exclusion from any mud or dust. The bar operates during racing & remains open for competitor convenience after completion of the meeting.
A complimentary post meeting sausage sizzle is provided for competitors, crews, officials and public after every race meeting. Promoted as family friendly entertainment, this gives the public the opportunity to get up close and personal with competitors, officials and organisers.
